Say it isn't so....mixing chocolate and water!?! Has anyone tried this yet? I just saw it on
College Fashion under their Hautelinks. The video is posted on youtube and under Cafe Fernando. My hubby loves chocolate mousse so I will test it and give you the results. This recipe was invented by a French chemist and there are only 2 ingredients...CHOCOLATE and WATER so you need to use really really good chocolate. I have the water...now I just need to go get some chocolate. I will post results. If someone has already tried this and it's a flop, please email me so I don't waste my water. Happy Weekend!

It has been so long...I forgot how to post on my own blog! Just getting Christmas put away. (is that normal??) I miss talking to myself online (otherwise known as blogging) so one of my New Year's resolutions is to be more organized so I can blog more often ;)
Not sure how new this is, but I just came across it. Absolutely LOVE it! This would be perfect in a little powder bath or painted pink in a little girl's room. It would be amazing in a high gloss white too, or yellow or green..actually ANY color high-gloss paint you can choose!

My favorite time of year...Fall! The air is crisp, soups for dinner, pumpkin lattes from Starbucks, boots, scarves and my hair doesn't frizz up from the humidity (like Monica on FRIENDS) Being in sunny Florida, it doesn't feel like it yet, but it is suppose to be 85 on Sunday!! So this weekend, the kids and I are climbing in the attic to find our decorations, going to pumpkin patch for some perfect pumpkins and decorating our house for Halloween...starting with the front porch. Here are some ideas....

One of our clients (also one of my favorite clients ;) just received her bar yesterday. Setting up your bar at home is fast and easy. (like a couple of people I'm sure we all know) If you have a well stocked bar, you are sure to have a good time. There are different ways to set up your bar depending on how dressy or casual you would like it. For me, it usually depends on what room it's in or what type of party it is so stock up and have a drink...it's Friday!

My girlfriend just had a party Saturday night for her husband and I made Ina Garten's Watermelon Mojitos. They were a huge hit so I wanted to share the recipe. I love watermelon colors so I thought how cute would an "End of Summer Watermelon" party be?? If I was organized, I would've had one right before school started. I just saw this new Galante outdoor collection from Ballard Designs and I absolutely love it. I've had the same outdoor dining table for 12 years and I think it's time for a change. I think a round table covered with a blue white fabric, fresh flowers and candles would make a lovely table setting for a small intimate dinner outdoor by the pool. What do you think?

3 liquor stores later... All sold out! Thank goodness my girlfriend, Ellen, found one last bottle for Arianna's birthday. We all had a taste and I actually love it. I know most people are used to the typical Margarita mix, but I like that they are not too strong and not too sweet. Aside from locating low calorie maragaritas this week, I was a few minutes late to my daughter's soccer game because I couldn't stop watching a movie on Lifetime and now I am standing at customer service at the grocery store with a cart full of groceries because I forgot my wallet at home. Funny considering it was Mother's Day a week ago. Happy Monday Everyone!

I LOVE the color green so I couldn't decide between these 2 inspiration boards for this month's tablescape. If you don't own a set of bamboo flatware, don't walk...run... and get a couple sets. I found mine at Horchow on sale a few years ago, but I've seen them at Target and Home Goods for about $19.99/set. I use mine all the time. In fact, my girlfriends Carmen and Laura have a couple sets too..perfect for sharing at bigger dinner parties. My jaw dropped when I found these incredible Kate Spade dishes at Macy's.. (I wish I would've found the zebra one for last month's tablescape!) The gold wing bottle stopper is a great hostess gift from Modern Chic Home...and at only about $14...you should keep a couple in your "gift closet!" The ruffled tablecloth from Horchow is new and absolutely darling. It is perfect for spring...very Anthro-ish. I found the black tassel napkin rings on a great new site I stumbled on...The Picket Fence.
Since it's March, I will pull some fun St. Patty's Day ideas as well.... Happy March Everyone!!

February Tablescape

I love Valentine's Day, but thought I might mix it up a bit. Instead of typical pink and red, I thought it would be fun to do a tablescape inspired by one of my favorite rooms by jonathan adler. The plates are melamine so this would be perfect for lunch or casual dinner. The gold silverware is dressy for me so I will use my regular bamboo. I love these owl pitchers from Modern Chic Home. I have the little one in my daughter's room for pencils, but I am getting the big one for flowers. (it would be perfect for fall too!) If you don't want to spend $$ on plates, another option is to just use white plates, gold chargers and find zebra cloth napkins..you could even use zebra ribbon to tie onto napkins. Now if I can only find time to have a party...

I received an email from a girl who started The Pink Pagoda which has the most adorable Asian-inspired artwork. I went to her site and immediately fell in love with all her prints. Not sure about everyone else, but I have no problem designing for other people, but I have a tough time making a decision in my own house. When I read Rue, Lonny or Ivy & Piper...I want it all. (almost Veruka Salt'ish)

I love the name Pink Pagoda...it was actually my first choice when I started the blog, but the name was taken! How funny is that!?!? Well check out her art...I would love to do a group of them in black bamboo frames. At around $25 each..it's totally do-able. I love them all, but here are some of my favorties..

Anyone who knows me knows I LOVE doing tablescapes. I find inspiration from a color, a piece of jewelry, a favorite room in a magazine...the list goes on. I also love chevron print (along with my fellow blogger The Fabulous Design File) so when I first saw this mood shot in Lonny, I thought this would make a great table setting. The white hydrangeas are fresh, but I always love a burst of color. Either one would work beautifully....

These zig zag plates from Macy's are perfect and can be mixed with so many different colors.

The chevron rug below was actually painted! Check out Carissa's blog below to see how she did it.

We just got back from an awesome road trip to Charleston, SC. The food was amazing and the architecture was incredible. I can't wait to go back since there are some restaurants we still wanted to try.
We ate, drank, walked, danced and laughed the entire weekend. It was a blast Jacki and Adam!

Here is a list of some yummy places to break bread:
39ruedejean - an incredible French Bistro we found by accident. You must have the croque monsieur or truffle potato soup...please don't skip dessert.
Husk - a new restaurant using local ingredients and an old carriage house that has been converted to a
cozy bar. (Adam's favorite hang out...just don't wear too much cologne...ha ha ha!)
Fulton-Five - a small Northern Italian restaurant that been named "Most Romantic" 13 years in row.
Hominy Grill - breakfast spot where everything is prepared from scratch. Get there early and order grits.
High Cotton - The first restaurant to serve "Ice Tea Vodka" cocktails. Great interior, amazing food.
Hanks Seafood - Designed from a 1940's fish house serving southern fish and local seafood. The She-Crab soup is a must along with the raw oyster platter. Great atmosphere.

It has been a few weeks since I have blogged. I am still recovering from the holidays..seriously..my tablescape caught on fire Christmas Eve and Riley broke one of the end tables in the family room on Christmas Night. The kids were doing a show for the family and singing when my daughter said, "Daddy..why is there a fire in the dining room?" It was at least 3 feet high!! She saw it while singing Jingle Bells, but she wanted to finish the song before she told us! Hilarious... Oh and uh my husband took an Ambien on Christmas Eve before "Santa" came to drop off all the gifts. We are the Grizwalds...

Okay peeps...Part One of the most amazing wedding I have ever seen. This wedding video is incredible. So incredible, I want to get married again just so I can hire Jim Altieri (and Carla Ten Eyck for photo). Just when you think it's over, there's more.
The picture in the vintage locket (shown next to her earrings) is her mom who passed away. Grab a tissue...maybe a couple. The wedding and reception took place in her dad's neighborhood on the water. My girlfriend, Rebecca, is opening up an adorable Vintage Candy Store off of Park Avenue. It will be stocked with scrumptious sweets, Good Humor ice cream bars, popcorn and more! Picture this....a wood door with an old fashioned bell, hardwood floors, paper bags, bright colored candy and the smell of sugar you remember growing up. I can't wait til it opens!! Backyard Camp Party

My girlfriend's son, Will, had a backyard camp party for his birthday. I love this theme for a birthday or even for a friday night playdate. (with just a handful of boys) I know it's probably too cold to do this now, but I always like to think of birthday themes ahead of time so I can shop early. Just grab gingham fabric, grill some hot dogs, do a smores basket and make campfire cupcakes...and you've got yourself a party! For the campfire cupcakes, I melted hard cinnamon and butterscotch candies in the oven for about 5 minutes. Once, they cooled, I broke them apart to look like fire. No time for homemade frosting this time, so we used canned frosting, edible rock candy (which I got from Dylan's Candy Bar..you can also use Nerd candy) and some pretzel sticks for the fire logs. How cute are they?!? We ran out of "fire" so did some cute little toy frogs and lizards on the rest. The treat bags were camo hankies filled with compass, mini flashlight, gummy snakes and some rock candy. How cute is this????

I have been wanting a white tree forever so I finally bought one after Christmas last year. I was so excited that I put my tree up 2 weeks ago! Yes, this was up during our Thanksgiving dinner...crazy I know, but I wanted to get a head start this year. Of course we will still get a real tree so we are headed with the kids to do that tonight. I would love to have hot cocoa tonight and decorate the tree with the kids, but it's 80 degrees in Florida...hardly feels like the holidays. The ornaments are from about 20 different stores...I can't imagine how many calories are in this tree. The huge cupcake at the top of the tree is from Serendipity...can you tell I have a sweet tooth!?!? (Angela - this would be perfect in Justin's office!)

I'm craving a cupcake..what else is new...

My Little Turkeys!

The kids and I made the oreo turkeys last night. The absolutely LOVED it. Next time I would try to use the chocolate bark (the kind you use to do chocolate covered pretzels) I think it might dry faster, but these still worked too!! Publix had candy corn and Target and Walgreens had Whoppers. I forgot the red frosting so I used Craisins (dried cranberries) cut in half for the gobble.....perfect! Some of them looked like they had a "lazy eye". The kids had a blast....I needed a drink. (and a swiffer)

For those of you who plan on making the Gooey Pumpkin Cake I posted last week...I made it last week using only 3 cups of powder sugar instead of the whole box and it was actually better...not so sweeeet. Use the remaining sugar for the whipped cream! Enjoy! -tessa

Oreo Turkeys!!

I actually smiled when I found these adorable little turkeys from Our Best Bites website. As soon as I am done blogging this post, I am headed to Target to get oreos to make these adorable "no bake" turkeys....perfect to do with the kids. (who am i kidding...I will be doing these when they are in school next week) The kids will gobble this up!

You could even eliminate the bottom oreo and just do the top part on a cupcake!

None of our beds are made, there is laundry to do, dirty dishes in the sink and I am posting about oreo turkeys.... I need a staff...

Kids Thanksgiving Table

Seriously....I was just thinking what I was going to do for placecards for the kids table when I came across this adorable turkey leg from Fiskars. I have the bags, I just need to fill with a popcorn ball. (I wish I would've bought the ones from Halloween!) These would be perfect with the "Thanksgiving side cupcakes" I posted last week. I LOVE the pilgrim hat too. I might have to design a turkey placemat that the kids can color. If I order the triple shot latte from Starbucks tomorrow, I just might do it! If so, I will send a copy for all of you to print. Keep your feathers crossed.

Well I just got back from our 10 year Anniversary Weekend in New York City. My feet hurt and I'm just sitting here blogging! It was my husband's first time to NYC (he never actually said this, but I think he thought the Meat Packing District was a place where they hung salami) Of course the holiday display windows are starting to unveil. I only saw a few so far since we went so early, but Henri Bendel had an amazing "Nutcracker" theme. The store was filled with lots of sparkle white, their signature stripe ribbon and amazing ballerinas. Since we don't have a store here in Winter Park, there were sugarplum fairies dancing in my head! Here are a few pics along with some great gift ideas.... Sweet Thanksgiving Sides (actually dessert)

I first made these a few years ago for my daughter's Thanksgiving Feast at school. It was a HUGE hit. I wanted to make something fun and different and since everyone had to bring a Thanksgiving side dish or dessert..I decided to bring BOTH! The directions are super easy...just canned frosting and candy! How easy is that??!?!? Here is my daughter Morgan with her girlfriend Kenzie enjoying their vegetables!! (notice Kenzie ate half the carrots!) Feel free to "one up" everyone and add white and black sanding sugar for "salt & pepper"....just sayin'...

Gooey Butter Pumpkin Cake

Gooey, butter and pumpkin...need I say more? I started making this about 3 years ago and have not had a Thanksgiving without it since. It is a recipe from Paula Deen (which explains the gooey and the butter). I promise, it is the most delicious pumpkin cake I have ever had. It actually replaces pumpkin pie in our house!! Pumpkin Carving

Of course, I wait til the last minute to carve a pumpkin with my kids. My kids love it, but sometimes lose interest half way thru the carving process...leaving me to finish carving it myself and feeding them cereal for dinner. Here are some simple pumpkin carving stencils that you can try with or without kids.

Easy.. cut out circles and fill with rubber mice!

Grab a black Sharpie and just draw...LOVE the black and white!!!

Gold spray paint....genius...

Super simple....just use Halloween masks...

Ribbon and paint...cute for a little girl's room!

Oh how I never get tired of hearing this....Agghh! Here is a super simple dinner which takes about 15 minutes to make...no joke! My girlfriend, Angela, who should write a book on "How to Simplify Your Life" was making this one day after school and her kitchen was spotless! How did she do it, I asked?? All you need is one big pot to make this delicious soup...no washing a bunch of pots and pans here...giving you some extra time to enjoy your 2nd margarita. (Trick: Make a double batch and freeze for dinner after a long day of holiday shopping next month) I know the Margarita seems a little summery, but here in Florida...it is still Margarita weather!!

P.S. I bought everything I needed for this quick and easy meal at our local Super Target...seriously. While you are at Target, grab a pinata and some candy in the party section and surprise your kids or guests after dinner. (Treat: you can give the rest of the candy away on Halloween!)

Urban Decay Engagement Photo Shoot

Okay....I just got back from the most incredible "Vintage Theme" Wedding I have ever seen. My girlfriend, Nichole, from Coral Pheasant just got married this weekend. She designed her wedding at an old Casino/Bowling Alley that was built in the 1800's in adorable town of Old Buttonwoods, Rhode Island. From start to finish, the wedding so thought out...down to the straws at the bar. My friends and I also met, Carla, one of the coolest photographers on the planet! (Carla - you were a riot!!!) Her work is AHH-MAZING..check it out below at the engagement photo shoot for Nichole and Tim. My feet are still throbbing from all the dancing, my eyes still hurt from all the happy tears and my face still hurts from all the laughing. The wedding will no doubt be published. It was incredible...Congrats Nichole and Tim!!!

Oh yeah...I also got my lips done...collagen is so cheap in Rhode Island. Are they too big???

I get so excited when I see my first bag of candy corn in the store because that means Fall is here!

The candy corn topiary is from Better Homes and Gardens. How easy is this... candy corn cupcakes!! I am heading to the grocery store and grabbing some white cake mix to make these immediately!. Ok...why wasn't this AH-dorable candy corn costume available when my kids were babies!?!? While I am at the store, I am grabbing some candy corn Hershey kisses and making these cookies as well. And since I don't have enough going on...how about this candy corn garland I can make with the kids out of paper plates!!! Of course I will kick it up a notch and add glitter...

A is for Apple Cupcakes

(1) Frost a regular cupcake with red frosting (for those of you wondering...red frosting is white frosting tinted red) and place a "mini" chocolate covered donut on top. (the ones you buy in the bags) Is that how you spell donut?? or is it doughnut? good grief..I have no business writing a blog!

(2) Freeze for 10 minutes

(3) Cover the entire donut with more frosting and roll in red sugar.

(4) Cut marshmallows with scissors (clean ones!) into a bowl of green sugar. You get about 5 leaves per marshmallow.

(5) Add pretzel stick for stem.

(6) Sell for a high amount at school bake sale.

How cute are they in these baskets???

Flower Cupcakes are also cut up marshmallows rolled in colored sugar.

Girl's Weekend

Happy Friday! I just had dinner with a girlfriend last night and it made me realize how special girlfriends

are in our lives. Last year, 3 friends and I took a girl's weekend and I put together a little "happy" for each of them. My girlfriend, Tara, made these adorable "Chick's Weekend" shirts for us. Each one of us were a color (I was green) She also made them necklaces with each chick color. I added matching jelly beans, lotion and a cute make-up bag (make up bags and lotions I scored at tjmaxx!). I boxed each of them up and surprised them right before dinner. (why did I not make a green one for myself?) I think it's time for another girl's trip!!

Yes, it is still Africa hot in Florida, but Fall is on it's way..you know what that means...Owl Cupcakes!

Okay....I actually screamed when I saw these cupcakes on food.com. They are actually chocolate muffins, but I am making these as cupcakes for our upcoming school bake sale.

It looks like broken muffin tops for the ears...No piping bag....How easy is that!?!

As if you don't have enough to do in a day...try making these adorable owl cupcakes.

All you need for these are some oreos, banana runts, m&ms and a star pastry tip.

I have actually made these for my girlfriend's son, Bryce's owl birthday party.

(*tip: make sure frosting is a little chilled so it "feathers" out)

Ok...I am sooo excited to go to my girlfriend's wedding. This is the girl I did the cherry blossom cookies for that I posted last month. Luau Party

My daughter wanted a Luau Party for her birthday so I pulled out my "Hawaii Party Bin" I saved from Ashley's bday (yes...I have party bins...don't ask) A small party of 10 so I thought setting the table would be exciting for them. I found this adorable printable site on Etsy called Paper Glitter. You buy their graphics (this one was $10) and you print from home. It included a ton of graphics...I used the banner (agghh..forgot picture!), placecards, cupcake toppers, gift bag tags and snack tags. The girls swam in the pool so I put tiki torches around the pool deck and filled with red/orange/yellow tissue to look like fire. It was a blast....Hope you had a Happy Birthday Morgan! -love, mommy

Asian-Style "Mini" Cocktail Party

A couple weeks ago, my mom came across some small appetizer plates at her house which sparked the idea of having an Asian-Style cocktail party. She makes the most amazing little egg rolls so we thought...why stop there...let's do everything mini! Each guest grabbed a bamboo tray and filled it up with little plates of bbq chicken wings, Shanghai egg rolls, vegetable noodles, homemade steamed dumplings (which she learned how to make when we lived in Hawaii), Hawaiian chicken skewers and shredded pork dumplings. It gave everyone a chance to try a little bit of everything and still have a "little" room for dessert!

I made the bite size key lime pies and cupcakes, but used store bought 2 bite brownies, added chocolate sauce whipped cream and a raspberry for the sundaes. Strawberry Shortcakes were store bought butter pound cake, fresh strawberries and homemade whipped cream.

We did veggies and dip in glass votives we found at Pier One.
You can find the serving spoons there too.

Okay...ever dream of a morning when the kids brush their hair and teeth without reminding them? How about feeding the dog without asking. Here is a little Chore Chart that has made my life (especially mornings) a wee bit easier. (one is for my girlfriend Angela) I'm not promising you will be Cinderella in the morning where everyone is singing and birds are helping you get dressed, but this list has taken a couple things off my list...and that's always a dream!

"I Still Fit In My Skinny Jeans" Gorgonzola Dressing:instead of regular mayo..use 1/2 cup Hellman's Olive Oil Mayonnaise
instead of sour cream..use 1/2 cup Nonfat Greek Yogurt & tsp. of lemon juice (great tip from Bethanny)
a few dashes of Worcestershire Sauce 10 oz. crumbled gorgonzola cheese 1/2 tsp kosher salt 1/4 tsp pepper 1/4 cup buttermilk Mix all the above ingredients in a food processor. I made wedge salads with this and grilled chicken I marinated in buffalo wing sauce. My husband had no idea it was low fat. Ok....Today was Riley's first day of school-school...not the kind of school where you drop him off at 9, but by the time you stop talking to everyone in the hallway you don't leave til 9:45. Only to come back in 2 hours for a class party then pick up at noon. A FULL DAY of school! I know I should be sad, but I am dancing around the house singing Sponge Bob's song, "This is the Best Day Ever!!!" I will probably cry later. Oh, and I will also feel bad for leaving tire marks in the parking lot.

Cherry Blossom Bridal Shower

I absolutely LOVE cherry blossoms so how excited was I that I received an invitation to my friend's Asian themed bridal shower!?! The invites came in an adorable box with a custom printed fortune cookie. The shower was in Rhode Island and I wasn't able to attend so I baked all weekend and made bridal gown and diamond ring cookies to ship!! I packaged them in individual boxes with "Lucky In Love" stickers. Her friends gave away lucky bamboo for the favors. Agghh...so cute! I see a cherry blossom party in my future..Chinese New Year maybe!?!?

First Day of School

What teacher wouldn't love a little "happy" on their first day of school. I found magnets, paper clips, push pins and matching pencils from a craft store and office supply store. If you run out of items, just fill with matching candy! It includes everything a teacher needs to start the year off right (except maybe some Advil and a frozen margarita) This one is for my girlfriend, Amiee, who is still one of our favorite teachers.
